The Japanese are known for their flawless, porcelain-like skin. Seriously, think about it for a moment: have you ever seen a Japanese gal with anything but amazing, virtually wrinkle-free skin? Since I have a birthday coming up in a few weeks (insert sobbing here) this got me wondering about the current skincare products I use and if I should trade them in for more effective ones. Ultra long eyelashes have been the obsession of many women for ages (Cleopatra, Bette Davis, Kim Kardashian). No surprise, really, as long, full, dark lashes can make a face stand out. Sadly, most of us weren’t born with amazing lashes and often need a little help plumping them up. For those seeking eyelash assistance, there are a plethora of options from eyelash tinting to mascaras that promise to fatten and lengthen to synthetic lash extensions. Read more »
Over the past year I’ve been hearing tidbits about a laser that zaps fat. And in light of a few (dozen) cheeseburger-dessert-alcohol rendezvouses, my mild interest got upgraded to moderate interest. (Oh, and those extra drumsticks and slices of pumpkin cheesecake from the last round of holidays that evenly distributed themselves on each of my thighs might have also been a factor.) In hopes of dusting off my skinny jeans this Spring, I decided to investigate. (Goal: when donning my tangerine-colored skinny jeans, I’m shooting for trendy, not over-stuffed Twinkie.) So, can a laser zap lbs? Read more »
Is your beauty routine screaming snoozeville, gals? Then it’s time to break the same ole’, same ole’ cycle. We’ve all been there…your glamour regimen becomes like your favorite pair of jeans you’ve had since high school: comfortable. You tell yourself your style is timeless. But while classic and timeless are great adjectives to use for fashion – makeup trends, hairstyles, and beauty product requirements need to be regularly updated. Think about it for a moment. You’re using the same moisturizer you did five years ago…but your skin isn’t the same it was five years ago (damn you, crows’ feet). The same goes for your makeup and hair. (Speaking of…I’m still hanging on to the Rachel Green/Friends haircut. Must. Update. This.)

These days we are surrounded bya growing beauty product trend;cosmetic, hair, and skin goodslabeled “green,” “organic,” and “natural” (it sounds like the description of the spinach salad I had for lunch). From deodorant to shampoo to lipstick, you won’t be hard-pressedto find a natural, green, or organic version. Since I’m flirting with the idea of going totally green and organic when it comes to my food and recyclables, I decided to get to the bottom of the green beauty buzz and break it down, layman’s style. We’ve all had that dreaded “fat day.” You wake up and feel…well, fat. Doesn’t matter if you’re pin-thin or curvy…happens to all of us (especially during big food fests like the typical post-Thanksgiving food extravaganza). It’s not so much a number on the scale as it is a mental thing (and midriff thing). You feel like you weigh two thousand pounds…and all two thousand pounds is located smack dab in your middle section. Yep. Nothing fits right or looks right, no matter how many outfits you try on. And while you’re frantically trying to find a pair of pants or skirt that doesn’t make you feel like a sausage, all the while you’re feeling like a big, bloated blob (no sugar coating here).

Seriously, what girl doesn’t want ultra long eyelashes? They accentuate the eyes and can be used in a “batting” motion to get your way (one of the many benefits of being a girl) Read more »
Ahhh, tis’ the new year. Which means making (and breaking) those infamous resolutions. Funny how every year I start out with a long, thoughtfully crafted list that dramatically gets whittled down around February. And by March I’ve all but written off my resolutions checklist, blaming lack of time (and willpower). Then, from April through November, I beat myself up for not achieving better gym ethic, conquering my lack of patience, helping a total stranger at least once a week, and mastering Words With Friends. Well, as they say: out with the old and in with the new… Read more »
